When ChatGPT was unveiled at the end of November 2022, this conversation interface was based on an AI model : GPT-3.5. It would be difficult to depreciate it beyond measure : it is all the same with this version that the world was conquered. The fact remains that since March, a new ChatGPT has appeared. It is based on GPT-4, a much more advanced AI model.
In the comparative tests that we conducted, GPT-4 emerged largely victorious over GPT-3.5. It makes ChatGPT smarter with the curious impression that it better understands the requests we submit to it. Not that GPT-3.5 was superficial. It's just that GPT-4 conveys the impression of understanding us better. Sometimes he even gives the impression of having wit and it is almost disturbing.
ChatGPT was offered to us for free when in reality, for OpenAI, its operating cost is very high. This phase was necessary for the large-scale seduction operation. Now, the case is heard : the public is conquered. Some aficionados aspire to benefit from the ultimate. And so OpenAI is now claiming its due for those who want to try out the GPT-4 model. The note amounts to twenty dollars per month.
For those who would be reluctant to dip into their savings, the case is not lost. It is possible to access GPT-4 for free. The operation is not always optimal, but everyone can thus acquire an idea of the potentials of this advanced AI.

Why does Microsoft offer GPT-4 for free ?
As you may know, Microsoft has become a major investor in OpenAI. It is true that the editor of Windows has everything to gain. Long undisputed No. 1 in its field, Microsoft was upstaged by Google in the early 2000s. How to access GPT-4 in Bing and Edge?
If we adopt the couple Bing+Egde, Microsoft offers a very attractive solution. Here's how to access GPT-4 from Microsoft's solution :
- load the Microsoft Edge browser;
- type bing.com in the search bar;
- at the very top, select the Conversation option;
- you access ChatGPT/GPT-4 from Bing. You can ask a question in the box located to the right of the mention “New section”;
- then click on the small arrow on the right to send it to ChatGPT.
You notice that Bing offers you three types of conversations :
More creative : This option is appropriate for questions that appeal to the imagination, such as asking to write a poem, create a character, etc.
More specific : For questions where you need factual and concise information.
More balanced : this mode is located in the middle between the other two. This is usually the one you should use most commonly.
One reservation, however : we compared the results obtained from this Bing / Edge couple with those we obtain directly from ChatGPT with GPT-4. And for now, the latter provides better and also longer answers - we compared it to the three formulas offered by Bing. It is therefore possible that Microsoft engineers have not fully completed the integration of GPT-4 in their tool.
In fact, it seems that Microsoft is giving us here a “mix” of GPT-4 and the Bing search engine, with the advantage that it cites its sources, which ChatGPT does not.
However, the best is not there. In fact, Microsoft has integrated Bing into Edge in such a way that it becomes possible to put ChatGPT to use at any time. In fact, if you look at Edge's top menu, you'll see a "b" appear on the right. When you click on it, a window opens on the right and it gives you access to the chatbot from the "Conversation" tab. In particular, when a Web page is displayed, you can ask ChatGPT to produce a summary of it.
How to access GPT-4 via Bing in Google Chrome ?
If you do not want to use Microsoft's Edge browser, it is nevertheless possible to access GPT-4 from Google Chrome. For this, it is necessary to download an extension: “Bing Chat (GPT-4) in Google”.
Once this extension is installed and activated in Chrome :
- perform any search from Google;
- when Google's response is displayed, you will see a box labeled Bing Chat appear on the right;
- you are asked to sign in to your Microsoft account - you will need to create one if necessary. Choose "Stay Connected" if you plan to use this service in the future;
- now Bing Chat displays the GPT-4 answer to your question;
- once he's finished typing his answer, you'll see a Chat button appear ! next to Bing Chat. Click on it;
you then access to ChatGPT / GPT-4 from Bing.com as if you were under Edge.
Admittedly, the procedure is a bit tedious, but if you don't want to use Edge, it has the advantage of working.
The good news is that the manipulation we have explained here also works if you connect from Firefox - you just have to download the same Bing Chat extension (GPT-4) in Google from the browser in question.
Ora.sh
Ora.sh is a structure that tests a lot of various chatbots and has included GPT-4 in the batch. To access it, type the address https://ora.sh/openai/gpt4 in your browser.
You are asked to register and you can, to simplify the procedure, indicate your Google address if you have one. Once registered, type the address https://ora.sh/openai/gpt4 again to access this chatbot and ask your questions. As a message at the bottom of the screen states: Due to high demand for GPT-4, you are limited to five messages per day. Note also that response times can be extremely slow from this interface.
