Does Microsoft plan to block the installation of Windows 11 on computers that do not meet the minimum system requirements ? This burning question is being asked because of a disturbing discovery.
It is not impossible that the software giant plans to prohibit PCs that do not meet the specifications of Windows 11 from installing it.
When it was launched, this operating system surprised with “muscular” hardware requirements, putting hundreds of millions of computers on the roadside with the power necessary to run it in good conditions. Despite the controversy Microsoft remained unmoved by justifying that security was at the heart of the problem.
Since if these machines are not eligible on paper to host the operating system, a tolerance is applied.
However, things could change quickly.
Windows 11 build 25905, no installation if the minimum required is not respected
Redmond seems to be working on a solution to block these problematic installations. The information signed Deskmodder (via NeoWin) comes from a discovery. A member of the Windows Insider program found that it was not possible to force install Windows 11 build 25905 released through the Canary channel on his old dedicated testing PC. The latter uses an Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 processor. So far it worked perfectly with previous Previews. The same verdict would have been found with a machine equipped with an AMD Turion II P650 chip. Here again the previous builds worked perfectly.
To verify all this, our colleague Deskmodder retrieved the Install.wim installation file from the installation ISO of build 25905 in order to replace that of the ISO of a previous build from the DEV channel. The result is that Microsoft appears to be using boot data in order to set up this block.
For the moment the American firm has not announced this change and remains silent on the subject. If such a blockage finds its way to the general public, it will not help to make Windows 11 popular, which still cannot win against Windows 10.
