The song was recorded in the 1970s by John Lennon, and mixed recently using new technologies.
Notice to Beatlemania ! Forty-three years after the death of John Lennon and twenty-two years after that of George Harrison, the Beatles released a new song called Now and Then. The song, recorded by Lennon in the 1970s, remained on the shelf until AI got involved.
"The Last Beatles Song"
Now and Then was born in Lennon's New York apartment. After his assassination, his wife Yoko Ono decided to give the recording to her former friends. Problem : The soundtrack is unusable. The tools of the time cannot correctly extract the singer's voice.
The years pass, without anyone being able to exploit the song. 2021 has changed the situation. While working on the documentary series Get Back, director Peter Jackson succeeded, using artificial intelligence, in extracting Lennon's voice from a cassette by separating it from the musical soundtrack in the background. “We ended up with John's voice, clear as crystal,” explained Paul McCartney, quoted in a press release announcing the release of this title.
Electric and acoustic guitar recordings of George Harrison from 1995 are added to the track. This is finalized by the last two living Beatles, McCartney working the bass, and Ringo Starr the drums. Their voices complete the whole thing.
“It is the last Beatles song, written and sung by John Lennon, developed and worked on by Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, and finally completed by Paul and Ringo more than four decades later,” summarizes the presentation of the track .
