Why shouldn't you use your phone at a gas station ?

 

For motorists, the precautions to be taken when filling their car's petrol tank are not to be taken lightly : it is obviously strictly forbidden to light a cigarette, since a spark is likely to create major damage and cause a fire or explosion. Indeed, gasoline emits flammable vapor and when you are about to fill your tank, vapor emanates from the filler hole. However, this is not the only precaution to take : you should not use your phone in a gas station either ! The prohibition signs are also there to remind you if you forget, but a reminder is always a good thing as well, because we are often dependent on our smartphones and their applications...

Why is it not recommended to use your phone at the gas station?

The reason for prohibiting the use of one's telephone in a gas station is the same as for the ban on smoking : the sparks produced are likely to cause a fire or even an explosion in the station. When it comes to the phone, the smartphone or a classic phone, the possibility of seeing sparks appear is real. Thus, a faulty battery that has not been replaced in time increases the risk. Indeed, the systematic use of our telephones tends to shorten their lifespan and accelerates the wear and the obsolescence of the various components of the telephone. Therefore, the risk of seeing its battery damaged and even able to produce sparks exists, even if the probabilities are relatively low.

Do not use your phone at the gas station, a responsible gesture

You now know that you really have to avoid using your phone when you are at a gas station near the pumps. On the other hand, you can use it if you have your vehicle cleaned at the car wash, or if you go shopping in the station store. As soon as you get close to the pumps to fill your car's tank, it's better to leave the phone in your pocket and never touch it : your messages can wait ! It is certainly difficult for some to be without their phone even for a few minutes, but it is a responsible gesture that protects you and preserves those who are nearby. And now keep that phone warm in your pocket while driving !
