OpenAI will allow you to develop your own version of ChatGPT, and earn money from it.

At the beginning of November, OpenAI organized its annual DevDay conference, during which it was full of new features. Among the announcements, there was that of GPTs, as well as the GPT Store. While users already have the ability to customize the ChatGPT experience with instructions, OpenAI now allows users to create their own versions of the AI. As for the GPT Store, it is a store from which users can select the different versions created by the community, and which will allow them to earn money.

The idea is to allow the creation of versions of ChatGPT optimized for specific uses, whether personal or professional. And to create these custom versions, coding isn't even necessary. According to OpenAI's explanations, it is for example possible to add instructions, integrate new information into the AI's knowledge, or even select particular skills, such as data analysis, or search for information. information on the web.

The GPT Store will make these personalized versions available to the community. And apparently, OpenAI has taken inspiration from mobile app stores, since creators will have the opportunity to earn money through GPT Store. “Once in the store, GPTs become searchable and can climb the rankings. We'll also highlight the most useful and enjoyable GPTs we come across in categories like productivity, education, and "just for fun." In the coming months, you will also be able to earn money based on the number of people using your GPT,” OpenAI explained.

Available in 2024?

During the November announcement, OpenAI indicated that it would launch GPT Store at the end of November. But now, it is possible that this store will not be deployed until 2024. In any case, this is what The Verge say in a recent article. According to this, OpenAI sent an email to people who have already started developing their own versions of ChatGPT with the GPT Builder tool.

In this email, the organization would indicate that it now plans to launch GPT Store in early 2024, due to unexpected events that have kept it busy. As a reminder, OpenAI was recently shaken by the Sam Altman saga. To summarize, the board has decided to fire the CEO of OpenAI. But a few days later, Altman returned to his position, while the board of directors was replaced.

Microsoft is already on board

Thanks to the billions of dollars it has invested in OpenAI and its unprecedented agreement with it, Microsoft has full access to the technologies developed by Sam Altman's team. And in fact, the Redmond firm is already planning to launch a functionality of its artificial intelligence Copilot (based on GPT-4) which will also allow the creation of personalized versions of the model.

Called Copilot Studio, this feature “brings together a set of powerful conversational features, from custom GPTs, generative AI plugins, and manual topics.”

“You can customize Copilot for Microsoft 365 with your own business scenarios: create, test, and publish standalone Copilots and custom GPTs […],” Microsoft also indicated. Otherwise, it should also integrate GPT-4 “Turbo”, the other big one announced by OpenAI, into its Copilot chatbot.
