An app allows you to use Android 14's battery health check on other versions of the system. Here's how to take advantage of this feature.
Each version of Android has its novelties. The upcoming one, Android 14, is no exception to the rule and among the new features, we will remember, for example, battery health. Today there is a Battery page in the Settings of your smartphone, but it is clear that the information provided is scant and quite superficial. Google wants to change that and Android 14 will include a much more in-depth battery health check tool.
And then you say to yourself : very good, but if my device cannot receive Android 14, what should I do ? There is a solution. Google made the feature's API available to developers, so they could integrate it into their own apps. This is for example the case of aBattery – Battery Health, which brings the system to older versions of Android. This requires a little configuration, but rest assured, the operations are simple.
HOW TO SET UP ABATTERY TO USE BATTERY HEALTH CHECK
After downloading and installing the application, follow the steps below :
1- Open aBattery and tap Permission Required under Maximum Capacity.
2- A popup opens asking you to Install Shizuku. It is an open source application that allows you to simply configure the permissions necessary for aBattery to operate.
3- Make sure you're connected to your Wi-Fi network and open Shizuku.
4- Several possibilities are available to you, depending on your version of Android in particular. If you're on Android 11 or higher, you can use wireless debugging by tapping Pairing.
5- Whichever you choose, carefully follow the steps outlined by Shizuku until you can Start the application.
6- Once Shizuku is started, return to aBattery.
7- You now see that the Maximum Capacity and Number of Cycles are displayed.
Note that the device itself may deny access to any of the information. For example, on the Pixel 3 used for this tutorial, the maximum battery capacity is not accessible, but its number of cycles is. This last parameter is important as it allows you to see the overall health of your battery. Please note that it is designed to perform between 800 and 1000 cycles on average. This does not mean that it will no longer work afterward, but that its maximum performance will drop.
